Why Should I Sealcoat?
Sealcoating asphalt seals the small cracks that can turn into large cracks and prevents water from seeping down to the base. Sealcoating also helps keep your driveway or parking lot from deteriorating. As soon as you start noticing gray areas on your asphalt, that is the time to sealcoat. If you notice loose gravel, you’d better hurry. The deep black color of newly applied sealcoat improves the appearance of new and old asphalt, making your driveway or parking lot look fresh again.
Broom, Squeegee or Spray?
All three options have their benefits:
Applying sealcoat by broom is a great method for dealing with worn asphalt. Not only is the material brushed into the asphalt to ensure a complete saturation and coating, but the sealer is also left on thicker, allowing for added durability.
Squeegee application is recommended on smooth driveway surfaces only due to the fact that the material will be spread evenly and will float over small cracks, helping with the waterproofing effect that sealcoat offers.
Spraying is an excellent form of preventative maintenance and offers the convenience of faster cure time, which allows for a second coat.
Regardless of the option you choose, your driveway will have the beautiful black luster of new asphalt.
